On Tuesday, November 14th, 2006, at approximately 10:15PM, the San Francisco School Board broke the hearts of over 1600 students participating in the JROTC program among 7 different public high schools. They voted to phase out the program over the course of the next two years.

There were two major demonstrations opposing the now-passed revolution, each of them made up of hundreds of students voiceing their opinion and protests. Were they heard? Did the Board care?

Nope.

JROTC was voted out on the basis that since it's funded by the military, the program must inherit the "Don't Ask, Don't Tell," and must therefore discriminate against gay and lesbian students. They also say that since the city has strongly voiced it's opinion of stopping the war in Iraq, this program should be eliminated.

Lies.

I looked at the info sheets that the anti-JROTC party handed out. They held "myths" and "facts" about the program. I wasn't surprised to see that the myths were the facts and the facts were the myths. Waste of paper, in my opinion.

I drew this on the night the decision was made out of anger. I haven't had a chance to ink it until now.

If only the Board members could see everyone's faces the next day. Then again, they probably wouldn't give; all they care about are their own personal political agendas.

Gee, Board, thanks a lot for killing the one thing that kept me sane in high school.
